Alleged rape of a young girl by policemen proves a fake

Last autumn, Hungary was shaken by the news: a young girl called Zsanett accused five policemen of raping her in a police car, after her car was stopped for a routine check early morning in the downtown of Budapest. Later several sources revealed that she was known as a notorious liar, and it was not the first time she accused someone of harassment. A picture of her spread over the internet, showing her posing with a dancing pole. The policemen confessed that the girl seemed disturbed when they stopped her, so it was a reasonable decision to take her home.
The case served as a proof of police brutality, and as such, an argument against the left-wing government in the hands of the right-wing protestants.

The latest statement of the jury underlined that most evidences - phone calls and mobile cell data and recordings of the surveillance cameras - prove the innocence of the policemen. On the other hand, she may be sued as well for dragging the policemen through the mire.

12-year-old immigrant kid - a youth gang leader

Rajmund, a 12-year-old kid, who came to Budapest by accident (fell asleep on a train), became a feared gang leader, robbing and stealing all he could from other youths. Almost instantly, he gathered a group of older kids around him and selected the underpass in Blaha Lujza square as his headquarters. With his gang behind him (who reportedly call him 'Boss'), he even stabbed a 15-yr in the underpass to get his mp3 player. Usually, he sold the goods for some Arabic persons in the near railway station.

The police cannot do anything because the current regulation does not allow the imprisoning or anything of children under the age of 14. He was put in a youth care home almost every second day, from where he escaped immediately. The issue seems to be getting to an end - the authorities identified him and allegedly he will be sent back to Romania in a few days. I have just seen him yesterday in the underpass, talking to people and asking for some food at a bakery. He is merely taller than 4ft...

- Update

He is now back in Romania. One of the Hungarian TV channels went down to his village to make a report, and they were 'robbed' (this word is used in the articles) by two kids of the same age as the subject of the story. They took some money and a mobile phone from them. Soon after, the local police identified them.

Caves of Budapest threatened by constructions

One of the renowned caves of Budapest is now damaged by an illegal construction. Since March 2007, a n illegal construction has been going on on the top of the hill hiding the cave. The floor of the main hall is now damaged, as well as the unique healing climate of the cave, used to cure asthmatic diseases. One of the side entrances has been covered with concrete and some soil after a ripping. The police did not find a responsible company to date, because the ownership of the lot is unclear.

This cave has another special feature: the paved walkways provide easy access for visitors with a wheel chair or a baby carriage. The damage did not occur in the zone available for visitors - only 250 m of the total length, 7.2 km of the cave is open for them. The damage wounded a part of 'zone A', the zone of the highest environmental value.

This is not a unique case in Budapest. There are several caves endangered by constructions, one of the most recent cases being the 'Crystal Cave' (Kristalybarlang) above the Gellert Hill.
